Day 21

FIRST GUEST ARTIST = The one and only, awesome and amazing, Brent Gutwein!

My dad and I had breakfast at Spinelli's Deli today, went to the Columbus Museum of Art, sorted through my food...haha, made some artwork, quick lunch at La Chatelaine and ice cream at Jeni's, practice, and then NewLife - busy!

Btw...if you are interested in being a guest artist, let me know! It basically entails making artwork with me (aka hanging out...it will be fun) and no experience is required!

My dad-o and his artwork - pastels and canvas...

My artwork - acrylics, feathers, sequins, chalk, fabric, and canvas...

Day 20

My dad-o came to visit today!  It was so fun!  We had lunch at El Arepazo (a really awesome Venezuelan restaurant) and then went to Polaris, House Wine, Lemongrass (my favorite restaurant ever!), and then to see "127 Hours"...talk about intense...and gross.  I love my dad!

My project today was simple - foil and paper...

Day 19

Friday :)

I did one of my favorite things today - I put paint on paper and squished it together...and it always looks sweet :)  I also had sushi with my friend Maggie and it was SO GOOD!

On a side note, I brought home a bag and emptied it and within seconds Colbi had climbed inside - such a weirdo!

Day 18

I polished my brains today and they look so cool!  I will post pictures soon :)

Today I used some glass that was leftover from filling the brain molds and a candle that I had sitting around.  I thought it would be fun to do something with glass again!

Day 17

Today I got to unearth my brains!  They look super cool and I can't wait to polish them and finish it off!

I covered a canvas with strips of fabric for today's project. I want it to be an inspiration/prayer board (I haven't decided which yet...)

Day 16

Busy Tuesday - but only 45 minutes of class total!  Then nannying, visiting my friend Lindsay and her new baby Hannah :), small group, and several rounds of Monopoly Deal!

I found a penny the other day and wanted to do a piece of artwork on it.  Sorry the picture isn't very good quality - I was too tired to get my nice camera out tonight :(

I used nailpolish and toothpicks to decorate the penny.

Day 15

Another spray paint day!  And my poor roommates walked in while I was doing it :(  Sorry!

I bought a coffee tumbler with a blank inner sleeve last week.  Today I spray painted it with dots and then sort of splatter painted it with acrylic paints afterwards.  I can't wait until it dries and I can use it!

Day 14

Today I decorated our bathroom mirrors for my daily work of art.  I used dry erase markers and first I tried writing Tara and I's names in dots but it didn't really show up.  So then I decided to make a cool design on the smaller mirror.  I think it looks sweet!

Day 13

Today we celebrated Tara's birthday with a nice dinner at a friend's house.  Since I am getting pretty good at procrastinating, I decided to do the table decorations for my dot project.

The "theme" colors were green so I used some green dot print fabric, black shiny fabric, green candles, and green/white marble things.

Day 12

I started off the morning by taking the kids (Jenna and Elliot) to school.  Felt like a mom.  Ugh.  Not ready for that.

It was freezing and I decided to do a spray paint piece.  So I spray painted in the apartment.  I think Phoebe (one of the cats) might have gotten a little high (sorry Elizabeth!).  But I tried my best to air it out.

I used spray paint, a large piece of cardboard I found, and the dots are in the background FYI!

Day 11

Busy Thursday (like always) but practice was cancelled so I had time to finish my brains and put them in the kiln for my glass class. And we're having a roomie sleepover (which I'm temporarily skipping out on to finish this post) :)

I used these really cool glittery foam letters that I bought yesterday and some blue markers (that remind me of markers my dad used and has in his office)....

Day 10

Today I got to have meals with two of my favorite people - Micah and Tara :)  It was Tara's birthday dinner so in honor of her, today's art took place at dinner.  After an amazing meal at Cap City Diner, we got a free dessert (because of her birthday) and it was the most gigantic piece of chocolate cake I have ever seen!  The powdered sugar spilled onto the table, forming a collection of dots!

Materials:  Table, powdered sugar

Day 9

Today I made some wax brain molds in my glass class!  And then I made this for my 365 Dots Project....

I used glitter (one of my favorites) and decorative tape.  This piece is in my visual journal and I LOVE the colors!

Day 8

No school today = thank you Martin Luther King!!!

I wrote a letter today and decorated the envelope for my "dots" piece for the day.  And Micah and I met halfway for lunch and watched Black Swan - so good to see him!

Day 7

I PROMISE I finished this on the right day!  I was watching a movie so I waited until it was over until I posted it!

I used fabric (leftover remnants) and blue mosaic glass tiles to create this piece.  I have been waiting to use the mosaic tiles for a long time but never found quite the right piece to use them in.

Day 6

Saturday = sleep in!  Then I swam for an hour and a half...the longest I have in years!

I spent some time with my friend Erica Walker and her fiance Lou today and Erica was wearing a beautiful necklace.  Her necklace is the focus of today's piece.  I really like how this piece incorporates what I did today (at least tonight) and sort of tells a story.

Friday, January 14, 2011

Day 5

Today I used metallic paints and black paper to make a piece that I think looks a lot like fireworks.  It's not super "dotty" but it works :)  And I love using metallic paints - metallics, glitter, and anything shiny are pretty much amazing.

And this is what I did with the leftover paint...

Day 4

Thursdays = long days = not the most inspired artwork.

But it was fun.  And it occupied my mind during marketing 756.  And I think it looks pretty which is what I love about art anyway.  And it was another piece for my visual journal which is always a good time.

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Day 3

Today I made another piece for my visual journal.  My art teacher last quarter (Brooke Hunter-Lombardi) had us start a visual journal for the class and I loved it!  I ended up filling a whole journal and starting a new one during the quarter.  It was awesome to make things and be able to experiment with new techniques.

I used colored/glitter paper and a fabric remnant to make this piece.  I really like using materials that are transparent.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Day 2

Today I did something I'm more comfortable with.  I used colored paper and white hole punches and modge-podged them together.  I love using Modge Podge and also love making art for my visual journal.

P.S.  On an completely unrelated note, Verizon is getting the iPhone = a dream come true!

Day 1

I have decided to embark on a year-long project inspired by the book "365: A Daily Creativity Journal."  Everyday, for an entire year, I will be creating a piece of artwork.  The theme for the year is dots.  Every piece of artwork will contain dots in some way, shape, or form.  My goal is to explore as many different mediums as possible and really broaden my art horizons.

For day one, I decided to paint with wax.  I have never done anything like this before, but I was inspired by sculpting with wax in my warm glass class.  I melted down wax and "dyed" it with different colored crayons.  Then I used paintbrushes to paint abstract designs.  I think it turned out pretty cool!

What do you think?
